Runway to Victory

Runway to Victory

Lakeland High School’s Dreadnaught football team has been named #1 in the state in 1986, 1996, 1999, 2004, 2005 and 2006. The “Runway to Victory” is the ultimate opening to the start of all Lakeland High School home football games.  Coach Bill Castle has said, “It is worth an automatic 7 points,” for his football team to run through.

The “Runway to Victory” is the product of the LHS Army JROTC program and is comprised of five dedicated teams working together. The leadership team is self explanatory.  There is a light team which sets up the 75 foot light strips on the side of the tunnel, first pole team who walks out carrying the curtain of the tunnel followed by the power poles which make up the majority of the tunnel.  The balloon team, which puts the black and orange balloons on the poles, which caps off the Runway.  Banner team isn’t a part of the runway, but is an important and integral part, on Friday nights because they help advertise the boosters before every game.

The “Runway To Victory” can be used by LHS cadets as a service learning project and community service hours.
